Okay, here%26#39;s my dilemma. I am one not to over pack. I have some nice outfits for the better restaurants and was going to do some sleeveless tops and shorts for during the day and later after dinner. When I look at the webcams, the weather says something like 85, but feels like 102. I am okay with that. I like the heat, but some of the people have jeans on, longer sleeves and some with a light jacket. Am I missing something here???!!! I really don%26#39;t want to pack for all seasons.
So, rather than rant some more. What is the weather like? Are the temps accurate that I am seeing? I will be arriving next weekend.
Thanks,
Barb
weather/clothing question
As a local, I have to tell you that when we turn on the a/c, it cools off significantly. I don%26#39;t think you would need a jacket, but jeans are fine for the evenings if they are dressy. Better yet, wear some summery casual dresses that go seamlessly from day to night without any discomfort. Depending on what you do, you might not need any shorts.
Don%26#39;t forget your sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, an umbrella (or buy a disposable rain poncho when you get here from the local Walgreens) and comfortable walking shoes. I pretty much live in different sandals (low and high heels and flat) year round. If you%26#39;re lucky, you%26#39;ll get a nice breeze in the evenings, but you really won%26#39;t need any jacket.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions.
weather/clothing question
Hi Barb,
I just came back from there..arrived Mon May 19
and came home Sat May 24..I am not one for heat,
and Mon, Tue, Wed were absolutely unbearable for me..it was about 90 and the humidity was right up there..needless to say, I couldnt cool off walking around..you will be good with tank tops and shorts..I brought jeans and never wore them..wore short sleeves and shorts all week even at nite...would definitely not go back during May - maybe March or early April..
Well, Barb111, I have an update: I think summer heat and humidity are kicking in! I was at the Greek Fest and even with clouds and a light breeze,I was drenched in sweat outdoors from 4-6pm in a breezy little sundress. But, I enjoyed the GreekFest!
What will you be doing when you come here? That will help guide your packing.
You are right los floras..sweat was literally dripping down my back..ewwww!! I would rather
be a little cool..at least every bar/restaurant
was air conditioned!
Well, thanks everyone for your quick replies!!!! I have noticed in the last few days, that more people are wearing tank tops and shorts. I was starting to wonder who wears jeans and a jacket in 90 degree weather. No one in my home town.
As far as the heat and humidity, I don%26#39;t mind it. We will probably walk around in the morning, eat lunch and spend mid to late afternoon back at the hotel pool. I have later night dinner reservations and will probably go out after that.
I am thinking definite cami and shorts during the day and some pretty little silk strapless tops with capris for dinner. On the nicer side. Afterwards, I may change back into shorts and a nice cami/tank top to go to some of the local clubs. I have some light cropped sweaters for the cool restaurants.
It just amazes me, that even now, one of the webcams says it feels like 102 degrees and I see people with jackets etc on.
Oh. well. To each their own!!!
Thanks again,
barb
It%26#39;s been hot the last couple of days (almost summer!) but I can%26#39;t believe we%26#39;ve actually hit a 102 heat index yet. Is that correct, barb? If so, wow...I hadn%26#39;t noticed it being THAT warm yet.
I%26#39;ll chime in with others...linen/cotton, shorts and sandals. New Orleans is very casual so stay comfortable!
I have a guess for why you see the jackets. While it may be hot as #*!! outside, the a/c in some of the places is downright cold, almost uncomfortably so, Pat O%26#39;Briens piano bar is a perfect example. I%26#39;d recommend taking a light jacket to put on in these type places.
JJ, the webcam on the Cat%26#39;s Meow says 85 this morning with a heat index of 105.8.!!!!!!
Zmyst, I know what you mean about the A/C and I always do bring a sweater, etc.
Thanks, again. 5 more days!!
Barb
I%26#39;m not sure where the heat index is coming from on that particular cam!
As of this minute (1:23pm on Sunday), weather.com says its 88 outside and the heat index is 97. I believe it. It%26#39;s warm out. Still, it%26#39;s not 105! LOL.
Cajun, it seemed a bit high to me, too. But I guess in the grand scheme of things, 97 or 105, man it is hot!!!
Barb
