I%26#39;ve been back a little over a week, have looked at my pixs dozens of times (I took 356 and I feel like I didn%26#39;t get enough), I soooo regret not taking more videos with my camera (only took about 1/2 dozen), I can%26#39;t get back into work at all (not that I%26#39;m into it a 100% normally).....now what do I do????? :-)
Another trip sooner than later is a must!!! So FQF is April 9th to 11th next year, hein??????? Hummm, how many pays between now and then?? he, heeee
Ok, now what???
Yep you are experiencing the NOLA withdrawal. It%26#39;s tough to overcome. Break out the new orleans movies like Deja Vu, Skeleton Key, etc. Make a hurricane at home. Other than that it%26#39;s tough to get over your ';illness';. you could always plan a more bare-bones trip back down for a long weekend to tide you over. Stay at a lesser-expensive hotel like the Villa Convento. I%26#39;ve done that to tide me over before.
Ok, now what???
I did bring back a few packages of hurricane mix. I didn%26#39;t want to use them right way, but I may not have any choice but to open one up this week-end. I%26#39;ll drown my sorrows. :)
As for going a long week-end, unfortuntaly not really an option. It%26#39;s the darn airfare that%26#39;s so expensive. Because I live in the maratimes (NB, east coast of Canada), we always have to go through Montreal or Toronto to go anywhere%26#39;s, so the airfare is always a few hundred dollars more than if I was leaving directly from one of those 2 cities.
No fair.
Oh wow-that stinks. How much is the average flight down to NOLA for you? I fly out of Pittsburgh so I always pay $162 with tax included and I think that is too much-I may have to rethink that due to what you just said. What about package deals on say sites like bookit.com or sidestep.com?
Outside of a interm trip down to the Big Easy you may just have to break out the hurricane mix. There%26#39;s always zydeco music on Rhapsody-they have a free 2 weeks trial so you can listen for free and it will take you back to being down there. Just cancel after the 2 week trial. They even have Big Al%26#39;s albums on Rhapsody to listen to.
Well, I bought 3 CD%26#39;s during my trip (1 jazz, 1 cajun, 1 zydeco) so that should keep me going for awhile. And that%26#39;s in addition to the CD%26#39;s I already have of NO type music.
Well, now you do what the rest of us do...stay on Trip Advisor and live vicariously thru everyone else%26#39;s trip reports until you can get back there!
Now you know what it means to miss New Orleans....
Porelly, you could start writing reviews for all of the places you went to and put them on tripadvisor.
Yes, I do know what it means now. :)
As for reviews, yes I need to do that. I did the hotel already, gotta do restaurants, tours, etc.
porelly, you know that ';Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans'; is a song, right? Otherwise you might think that we are crazy to say that to you so often.
I know what you mean. New Orleans took ahold of my soul the moment I stepped out of my hotel for the first time. It was just that quick. My first trip was in 2002 and I don%26#39;t know that a day has gone by in the mean time that I haven%26#39;t thought about New Orleans at least once.
I%26#39;ve been back twice - once right after Katrina which was an experience (that was a work trip), and then another time in 2007.
If it were totally up to me, I would go every year, but given limits on vacation time and funds, plus the fact that there are many other places in the world that need visiting too, I can%26#39;t go every year. So the compromise is that my husband and I will go every 5 years and if I can work in a business trip in the interum, I will go more often :)
Dear Elly, I know what you mean. NB never meant that much to me ( No offense intended) Try PEI or NS in the next few months. Cape Breton Island is Beautiful. As A New Yorker I can tell you so. LOL
Reserve you stay for next year and dream about it.
The planning is almost half the fun.
