first time....few questions

should we book our tours ahead of time or is it something easy to do once were there? are there flyers or something with the tour phone numbers and info on them?

the main tours we want to do is the cemetary, oak valley, and the area where katrina hit. we will only have one and a half days so maybe we should just drive ourself to all of this? how doable is that?

i have heard its hard finding gas stations...is that true?

is it easy to find parking in the french quarter?

thanks

You don%26#39;t really need to book tours ahead of time, but it%26#39;s one less thing to do once you get to town. Oak Alley Plantation is about 1-1.5 hours outside of New Orleans, and it would be easiest and cheapest to drive there yourself.

As for the cemetery tours, there are many tour options, but I like Save Our Cemeteries. http://www.saveourcemeteries.org/

For Katrina tour, I%26#39;d recommend Tours by Isabelle. http://www.toursbyisabelle.com/

It%26#39;s not hard at all to find gas stations. There are many around town and off the I-10 getting in to town.

As for parking, there are many pay lots, so parking is not a problem. However, finding *free* parking can be difficult, though street parking is free after 6pm and on the weekends.

thanks so much for all the info and the fast response.

The only thing with Tours by Isabelle is that she doesn%26#39;t garantee a tour until she has a full van. Since you mentionned that you only have 1%26amp;1/2 days, you might want to have a back-up plan for the city/Katrina tour.

Also, if you do book ahead of time, make sure to call to confirm the day b4. I didn%26#39;t do this with one of my pre-booked tours during my trip last month, and they were a no-show. Partially my fault I guess.

With some companies you can save a little money pre-booking online. Most hotels will have a hundred brochures of all of the tour options once you arrive as well. Parking isn%26#39;t the easiest thing in the world in the quarter, especially on the weekend.
