was looking at mapquest and it says just over 4 hours from destin to NO...has anyone done this that could tell me if this is correct?

Yup, that%26#39;s pretty accurate. It takes me about 3.5 hours to get to Pensacola and a little longer to reach Destin.

Yes. We went to Destin last year and made a three-day stop in New Orleans on the way back home. It took us about 4 hours - easy drive. I absolutely loved New Orleans and am planning a return trip for my anniversary.

Though the Gulf is beautiful in Destin, it is a long drive, very over-developed and crowded. We have friends there who told us that the local economy needs supporting especially the smaller local stores/restaurants. We love Perdido Key, Fl. and Orange Beach, Al. which is much closer. You still get the beautiful sugary sand but the water is not quite as pretty. Your call!

I agree re: Destin. We stopped going a few years ago due to the overcrowding and overdevelopment. They%26#39;ve ruined what was once a great Florida beach town.

actually we are staying in destin/fort walton for a military conference but we both really wanted to take the middle weekend and go to new orleans. we thought about leaving fri when my husband is done and staying til sunday.

seems like everyone loves new orleans and being that close we cant pass it up.

Friends of our%26#39;s just returned from Destina dn got our 2 year old daughter a Destin T-Shirt. She was proudly wearing it yesterday at the playground. Off-topic but had to chirp in about Destin.
