hotel monteleone vs bourbon orleans

hi - my husband and i are planning a trip and i think i have the hotel narrowed down to 2 choices - the Bourbon Orleans or the Monteleone. We are looking for somewhere in the quarter, with a nice pool and quiet enough where we can get some sleep. I stayed at the BO over 10 years ago and thought it was so nice but not sure if it has changed or even my tastes have changed! The Monteloene is over $50 more per night - is that difference in price worth it? Thanks!

In my mind I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth it but I%26#39;m sure you will get plenty of people saying that it is. It all depends on what you want in a hotel and how much those extras are worth to you. I am of the belief that the expense of a high priced hotel room in NOLA is better used elsewhere. I usually am out of my hotel room so much during my stay that I prefer hotels not as expensive as the Monteloene. For sure it is a very nice hotel but if those are your two options I would go with the BO.

The Monteleone is one of the nicest hotels in the Quarter and has a great rooftop pool. It%26#39;s definitely a better hotel than the Bourbon Orleans.

Whether it%26#39;s worth it depends on what you want out of a vacation. To some people, a great hotel (historic, contemporary or otherwise) is a crucial part of their vacation. To others, they won%26#39;t be doing more than sleeping in the hotel, and they%26#39;d rather spend the money on food/drink/attractions.

I%26#39;m a fan of the Monteleone, so I%26#39;m biased towards it. Either way, you should visit the Monteleone%26#39;s revolving Carousel Bar - fun, classy lounge area!

As world traveler indicated personal preferences would play a big part-Bourbon Orleans to me is better located and a fine old hotel. The pool is nice but surrounded by rooms at all levels in their %26#39;courtyard%26#39;. The Monteleone has a great pool that has great views of the city and apart from courtyards, rooms etc. and its carousel bar is very nice but it is also across from MR. B%26#39;s one of my favorites. So it comes down to preferences but $50 a night would tip the scales for us to go to the Bourbon Orleans.

I visit regularly. The Bourbon Orleans is normally my first choice. I like the Monteleone but like the BO better. The only other place nearby (about 1/2 way between the 2)that would compare to these is the Omni Royal Orleans. Actually the Omni would be my first choice if the rates were close. It has a roof top pool with an observation deck (I think about 5 or 6 floors).

I also prefer the Bourbon Orleans but it can be noisy particularly on the Orleans St, Bourbon St and St Ann sides due to the bars such as Johnny Whites, Tropical Isle, Funky Pirate, Oz and the Bourbon Pub. I usually request inner rooms overlooking the pool which are very quiet. Great central location behind the St Louis Cathedral.

Lots of good points. Noise can be a problem at BO, depending on the room. I personally don%26#39;t spend a lot of time in my hotel room. Sleep, shower, maybe an afternoon nap, otherwise I%26#39;m out and about. I%26#39;d move the $50 PER DAY over into my food/drink budget.

The Monteleone staff is far better than the nitwits who work the Bourbon Orleans. Still, I%26#39;d probably choose the B.O. and deal with their incompetent staff if it saved $50 per night.

I love the Monteleone, but it is not worth $50 over the Bourbon Orleans in my opinion. I have an apt. just down 1/2 block from the BO and the staff is very helpful to me when I need a taxi on the spur of the moment or want reservations for the airport shuttle or need directions to something that is difficult to find out of the Quarter. The busboys have even carried things to my corner for me if they think it is too heavy or awkward for me to handle.

The pool there is nice, but in the courtyard and some of the rooms open onto it. The pool at the OMNI Royal is my favorite, but the bar at the Monteleone is worth a visit. If you do stay at the BO, ask for an inside room or a room on the Royal/Orleans sides if you want quiet.
