Does anyone have any suggestions for great art galleries to visit in New Orleans? We are traveling to the city this weekend and I%26#39;ve heard that the first weekend of each month is sort of like gallery night, at least in the warehouse district. Is this accurate, and has anyone been to any galleries which specialize in contemporary art, painting, or folk art? Really, any advice will be appreciated from the art lovers out there.

I%26#39;m not a big art lover, but my husband and I really fell in love with Joe Dunn%26#39;s work (on Royal) he does a lot of New Orleans scenes...that%26#39;s probably why we love his work so much, our favourite place :)

I%26#39;m also a fan of the Painted Alive gallery on Royal St in the French Quarter. Really unique stuff!
Thank you both for your suggestions - we are staying in the French quarter so we%26#39;ll be sure to keep an eye out for these spots.
not really art -but there is a place on Royal that is a shop that has guitars and pictures autographed by famous people - that was very cool. Had a hard time getting everyone OUT of the shop so we could make our dinner reservations!
The city%26#39;s premier gallery is the Arthur Roger Gallery on Julia. Just amazing displays of beautiful art. It%26#39;s usually out of anyone-who-isn%26#39;t-Bill Gates%26#39; price range but fun to view. Check it out! There are some other great galleries on Julia as well and, of course, Royal and Magazine have dozens of art shops and galleries as well.
Thank you for the excellent ideas! I appreciate the information and have Royal, Julia, and Magazine streets on my list of places to go this weekend.
Don%26#39;t miss James Michalopoulos%26#39; gallery at 617 Bienville (between Royal and Chartres). He did this years%26#39; Jazz Fest poster, and he provides some incredibly interesting and unique perspectives on the city%26#39;s architecture.
I will check that out - I like the poster so that should be interesting. Thanks!
