Club La Pension

Seeking any information on Club La Pension, located at Canal and Decatur streets.

We are considering a 1-week vacation package through 4th of July holiday offered to military families. Lodging is at Club La Pension. It will be our first visit to NO, and looking forward to exploring the city. Any information on this facility would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Club La Pension

I%26#39;ve done a lot of research on hotels in New Orleans and I can%26#39;t say that I%26#39;ve ever run across this one. I%26#39;ll do some research and get back with you. (I have lots of friends from NO and Slidell)

Club La Pension

Hope this post is not too late to help. Club La Pension is a time-share, so be prepared to fend off the marketing efforts. Other than that, the location is pretty good. On the edge of the Quarter close to House of Blues, Jackson Square, Jax Brewery and right across the Canal from Harrah%26#39;s Casino. Also 3 blocks from the river and all of its attractions.

The %26#39;hotel%26#39; itself is in an historic building and so would be described as %26#39;quaint%26#39;; small rooms, but clean. I have not stayed there but have a timeshare closeby and did a look-see of the La Pension about 2 years ago.

Have fun and laissez le bon temps rouler!

BDAD59....Thanks for replying, and your information is much appreciated. We 鈥榞oogled鈥?the resort, and managed to find a couple of websites with photos. Hopefully, we won鈥檛 be hassled too much with timeshare marketers. Nevertheless, we are please with the location of the facility, which will make it interesting to explore the area.

Let the good times roll in N鈥橝wlins!

P.S. How is parking in the French quarters? Parking garages?

Hey SaipanCNMI and others,

My family and I are planning to stay at Club La Pension during thanksgiving. Has anyone stayed there post katrina, and if so, did they experience any damage or suspension of services? Also, I went on their website and their rooms look really nice, but what%26#39;s it like when you get there? What are the overall thoughts of this hotel and does anyone have other recommendations for timeshares in the area?

Thanks

Tmoorehe

We stayed at The Quarter House(timeshare) on Chartres Street, it was lovely.

Club La Pension was our next choice and we had a look around the reception area while we were in NO. It looked very nice.

Hope you enjoy your trip to NO - wecertainly did.

Hello,

Just wondering how your stay at the Club La Pension went. We are thinking of staying there the third week of May.

Thanks,

Club La Pension is an RCI property and receives decend reviews from RCI members who have traded into the resort. Here%26#39;s a link to those reviews.

I%26#39;ve stayed at Club La Pension on two different trips and it was great. First stay was Dec 2006 and again in Dec 2007 - both stays were great. Rooms were furnished well, clean, great staff for check in, bell service and housekeeping. For the last trip we had rooms on Decatur, second floor with a great balcony. It was nice enough weather to enjoy the balcony. The only downside to the rooms we had is every night, around 3 am, street cleaning crews gathered across the street and hung out for awhile, laughing and talking really loud - woke up my father in law every night. It didn%26#39;t bother me, but I can sleep through most anything. I love the location and always stay in this part of the FQ. My other favorite time share is The Quarter House, one street up on Chartres.

Update to recent Hotel???? Post

Ok, we did something we never do, we used bookit and

did the mystery hotel(this is soo not my husband) and for $305 for 3 nights we got Intercontinental New Orleans. Please tell this hotel is a good if not a better choice then Hilton Riverside or Burbon Orleans ($180.00 cheaper).

As Always THANKS

KMHNY

Update to recent Hotel???? Post

Depending on when you%26#39;re traveling, that%26#39;s a good-to-great price for the InterContinental. It%26#39;s a nice hotel.

Update to recent Hotel???? Post

If I%26#39;m reading your post correctly, you saved $180 at the Intercontinental via bookit. I%26#39;d say you did very well, and you%26#39;ll both be happy there. It%26#39;s on the streetcar line which is another plus.

We are going down next week 5/15-5/18, we saved over

$200 w/taxes and all.

More money to spend

Thanx

New Orleans Historical Culinary Tour?! Hit or Miss?

Hello everyone! I%26#39;m going to be in New Orleans this weekend and am considering going on a 2 p.m. Culinary Tasting Tour. Can anyone speak to whether this tour is worthwhile or not? We%26#39;ll only be in town for the weekend, but my boyfriend loves New Orleans food and southern food in general (cajun, creole, seafood, etc.) so I thought this might be fun to learn more about it and have some tasting aside from the meals we%26#39;ve planned. Thoughts?! Thank you!!

New Orleans Historical Culinary Tour?! Hit or Miss?

Where did you hear about this? I am unfamiliar with this tour. Sounds neat though!

New Orleans Historical Culinary Tour?! Hit or Miss?

I heard about it on the Fodors message boards. A few people there said good things, but I wanted the Tripadvisor perspective! There%26#39;s also a Web site . . . http://www.noculinarytours.com/ . . . where you can learn more. Good luck and let me know if you find out anything interesting. Anyone who%26#39;s reading this know anything or been on the tour? Insight would be great!

I%26#39;m visiting in late June and am also considering taking this tour. I%26#39;d love to find out if you went and how it was!

I went on the French Quarter Culinary History and Tasting Tour and from my experience I recommend that you don%26#39;t do it and save your money to eat in a good restaurant.

This was an excellent tour!! We learned a great deal about the New Orleans and Louisiana culture in addition to the cuisine and its influences. At six different restaurants/shops we sampled gumbo, pralines, rice and beans, a muffelata, rum cake, and brisket. There was also a great cooking demo of making a roux. I highly recommend Randy Bibb as the tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. You can probably email him at randyneworleans@yahoo.com if you would like to know which days he will be leading the culinary tour or if you are interested in some other type of New Orleans tour.

Perhaps there is more than one. OUr group took a Culinary %26amp; History Tour thru Zerve. Don%26#39;t do it!

You will buy a 3-hour tour, and will spend 2 hours %26amp; 50 minutes listening to the guide fill the time with ridiculous and uninformative information. You%26#39;ll get 10 minutes TOPS of eating time, and it will be paltry bits of food (2 oz of gumbo in a paper cup eaten on the sidewalk outside a restaurant, or a crumb of praline passed on a plate, etc et c.) Meanwhile, most of the tour overhyped as ';behind the scenes'; is concentrated in Antoine%26#39;s 14 (yes, 14) dining rooms where the guide feels compelled to spend 5 - 10 minutes PER ROOM!

Yes, I%26#39;m not exagerrating. If you%26#39;re not in Antoines, you%26#39;re on the street squeezed up against the wall as cars, trucks, and people move by. TRUST ME ON THIS: Take your money, find a good restaurant, and spend 3 hours eating, drinking and soaking up true New Orleans hospitality. This could have been a fabulous tour, But the operators are both cheap and lazy.

  • Need help with cemetery tour...

Will be in New Orleans next week with my sister. She has trouble walking distances or standing for any length of time. My question is... does anyone know of a cemetery or haunted tour that does not require a lot of walking or standing? She%26#39;s fine ten minutes at a time. Any advise would be appreciated.

    Need help with cemetery tour...

All the cemetery tours I%26#39;ve been on are at least an hour in length, and while there%26#39;s not that much walking, there%26#39;s a good bit of standing. Unfortunately, not too many places to sit down. You might want to look into a haunted carriage/buggy tour instead. neworleansonline.com/neworleans/tours/horsec鈥?/a>

    Need help with cemetery tour...

I went with a pregnant friend in November and the standing and heat got to her pretty quickly-and she was only four months along. I agree if you can work in any type of carriage ride tour, it may be better. There are many wonderful ghost and vampire tours in the city, I am sure you will have no problem finding something entertaining. Your hotel may be able to help.

You could check into save our cemetaries tours that leave from the Basin Street station (n.Rampart %26amp; conti) and there are areas to rest there and thats where the tour starts. St. Louis I is right next to the Basin St. Station tourist information building. She could just go to #1 and leave at any point feeling tired. ITs a thought. The carriage rides are fun and check with the dispatcher at Jackson Square about the haunted carriage ride as they are sporadic.

Thanks, for the great ideas...... I have called a few places for the haunted carriage tours. Just got off the phone with Bloody Mary. She told me her husband does carriage rides. If we contact him he can do a haunted tour for us (private or in a larger carriage with additional people). I think thats what we%26#39;ll do. Sounds perfect for our needs.

Cajunyank.... I liked the Save Our Cemeteries tour idea. That would have worked for us. Unfortunately, the tour is on Sunday only. We arrive on Tuesday. So maybe next time...

Go to Commander%26#39;s Palace for lunch and 25cent martinis, M-F and visit the cemetery just across the street. It is small and does not require a lot of walking. There is usually a volunteer there to do a SHORT tour.

Yes, go to Commander%26#39;s for lunch and then to the cemetery right accross the street. I think they close at three so be there by two.

A worker was there and gave us an informative (and short) about 30 min tour. There was no charge and you could give a donation if you chose to.

Commander%26#39;s sounds great. I%26#39;m looking into lunch on Friday. Can%26#39;t go wrong with .25 cent martinis. But, I have a feeling it might be a good idea to check out the cemetery BEFORE the martinis... Can%26#39;t wait !! Leaving in the morning.

    Thanks Again!

Special offer to book for FQF next year?

    Morning all,

I got an email from the Place D%26#39;Armes offering ';1st option for hotel space'; for next year%26#39;s FQF. Anybody ever taken advantage of an offer like this? Is it worth booking so early??

The email of course didn%26#39;t talk prices, I%26#39;ve emailed them back to find out. Just wanted your opinion.

.....by the looks of things, I guess I%26#39;m planning on going again next year, yeeeeeeeeeah. I%26#39;ll be going with a mini pharmacy in the suitcase though, I can tell you that much! :)

Special offer to book for FQF next year?

They may require a non refundable deposit so you better get all the details before booking. Thanks for all your trip reports.

Special offer to book for FQF next year?

With the success of FQ Fest, there%26#39;s absolutely no reason for any Quarter hotel (ESPECIALLY that one!) to discount, even a year in advance. My guess is that the ';first option'; is just that. It%26#39;s your chance to book before they open it up to the general public.

I%26#39;d also read the fine print carefully.

    Hotel Choices

Hello! Myself and a friend are planning a visit to NO in October or November. We are so excited and love to people watch. We are looking for a hotel with a nice view, guaranteed private balcony room with 2 beds in the French Quarter and NOT on Bourbon Street. We have a modest budget and are looking for the nicest place possible for our money.

Private balconies seem kind of hard to find and to guarantee. I think St. Marie and maybe Dauphine Orleans (I think that%26#39;s the one I%26#39;m thinking of?) have private balconies available for rooms with two beds. BUT then I%26#39;ve read in the reviews that rooms can vary greatly. Some have no view. Some are over parking garages, etc.

Anyone have any hotel advice or experience that can offer advice on a specific room number or floor to reserve? Or maybe other hotels to look at that have something nice like this available? I think the Bienville does but last I checked their pricing was almost $300/night, which is too high for us these days.

I%26#39;m hoping by planning this far in advance we may have some decent options. Thanks!

    Hotel Choices

Contact the Hotel Provincial to see if they have it; we were there is Dec and had a very nice stay. They have 3-4 buildings one faces Decatur so I%26#39;m thinking that may work for you.

$300 per night for Bienville House is crazy; we stayed there for under $100 per night!

Dauphine Orleans also has about 3 buildings, we had a good stay thru in 1997 but no view.

    Hotel Choices

*bumping this thread because I stayed at the Provincial this past January, but it was a ground-floor room with a non-existent view (inside of the room was lovely, though).

I really want a room with a balcony overlooking the street next time I stay, and would love to know which room(s) to request/reserve.

2 separate beds would be ideal, but would be willing to share a large king bed with my friend if absolutely necessary.

Can anyone help? Nothing on a street that%26#39;s too busy (i.e. Bourbon), but I%26#39;d kill to stay in a room with a streetview balcony in NOLa (not literally, but you know what I mean).

    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I am a big fan of having a balcony room when visiting NOLA. In fact I%26#39;ve never not had a balcony room. It all depends on how busy of a street you want. The St. Marie has private balcony rooms on the Dauphine side. They are very good about honoring requests via email. Just request a single balcony room facing dauphine. That being said their balconies are not my favorite.

My favorite is the Villa Convento. With them you can request specific rooms that you are guarenteed to get. They have 6 balcony rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors with private balconies. We prefer the 3rd floor. The view from up there is amazing, you can see the rooftops across the quarter. These are larger queen beds only though but with Croissant d%26#39;Or across the street it%26#39;s a great choice.

The Dauphine Orleans does have some balconies, but not the view you%26#39;re looking for, mostly courtyard or pool views, which are nice, but not for people watching.

    Mimi

I have stayed at Hotel Provencial where we had a nice room, with 2 beds, and a nice balcony with a decent view. I don%26#39;t remember which building or room, but it was one of their older rooms.

We wound up booking at the Place D%26#39;Armes actually. The courtyard looks really nice and although they can%26#39;t guarantee a courtyard balcony, I%26#39;m hoping our chances are good considering we%26#39;re booking like 7 months in advance! If anyone has any tips on how to officially seal the deal with hotel management or reservations desk there, please let me know! :)

I just stayed at the Place for my 1st trip to NO last month, and it%26#39;s the perfect location! Everything is close in the FQ, but the Place is smack dab in the middle, just at Jackson Square. You%26#39;re going to love it.

I booked 10 months in advance, and I got my request of a balcony room overlooking the Quarter. They said that they do take that into consideration, how long ahead of time you booked, so hopefully it%26#39;ll work out.

But worse case scenario, the courtyard is a great 2nd option to spend time outside. When u%26#39;re there, it%26#39;s hard to believe you%26#39;re in the middle of the French Quarter, just 1%26amp;1/2 blocks from Bourbon.

We have had a balcony room every time we stayed at LeRichelieu, although there really isn%26#39;t a lot to watch from your balcony in that quiet area of the French Quarter.

    Weather

Anyone know what the weather is like out there? Does it look like its going to rain? Hopefully it does, rain. Nothing better then the hot humid weather, its good for your skin.

    Weather

It rained yesterday, and it%26#39;s not that hot and humid, at least in comparison to what it will be in a few weeks.

You could always check Weather.com too!

    Weather

Don%26#39;t know what cable system you have but we have ATT U-Verse in Ohio. They have a channel Weather on Demand. You can program in New Orleans and check the weather whenever. Even watch the recorded forecast. Fun.
